Posted in Don't Ask, Don't Tell, Interesting at 8:52 pm by Daimeon

(Cross-Posted from Pam’s House Blend)
Hello Blenders, this is Daimeon serving up the live-blog Blend for you.  Please be patient with me as this was my first liveblog.  The truth is, it was live earlier but now I’m updating the post to include some more important quotes since I didn’t have a press-kit that the other members had to work with which included the full text of the speeches.  (I have everyone’s except for Rep. Meehan’s, and Rep. Shay’s)

CWA Caught in an Obvious Lie

Posted in CWFA, Fundies, Interesting, Lies, Religious Right at 7:48 am by Daimeon

Concerned Women for America released this statement yesterday.

Regarding the Endorsement of Candidates 2/20/2007
By Staff

Recently, there have been several articles in the press reporting on Maxine Sieleman’s support for Senator John McCain for president. These articles have mentioned that Mrs. Sieleman founded the Iowa chapter of Concerned Women for America (CWA). CWA wanted to take this opportunity to clarify that Mrs. Sieleman was acting in an individual capacity when she endorsed Senator McCain and was not acting on behalf of CWA or its Iowa chapter. CWA does not support or oppose candidates for political office. CWA’s state director for Iowa is Tamara Scott.

Mrs. Beverly LaHaye is the founder of CWA national.

Ok so why in August of 2006 did CWA make this press release?

CWALAC of PA endorses re-election of Senator Rick Santorum      8/29/2006

August 24, 2006 For Immediate Release

Concerned Women for America of Pennsylvania Legislative Action Committee endorses Rick Santorum for U.S. Senate

Zelienople- – Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee of Pennsylvania considers it an honor to endorse Senator Rick Santorum for re-election to the U.S. Senate.

Beverly LaHaye, founder and chairman of Concerned Women Political Action Committee (CWPAC), states, “If the United States Senate falls into the hands of Harry Reid, Ted Kennedy and Hillary Clinton, you and I can forget about another pro-life justice on the Supreme Court and overturning Roe v. Wade. And we can forget about any other meaningful pro-life, pro-family measures ever seeing a vote. Even pro-abortion Senators like Barbara Boxer have come out in favor of Bob Casey, JR., saying ‘to dislodge Santorum is a pro-choice win!!!”

Hmm, well we see that not only is CWA irresponsible with other’s information, they aren’t even responsible enough to check to see if they’ve made endorsements before.

Hannity Listeners Prefer Adulterers For President

Posted in Uncategorized at 1:21 pm by Daimeon

Sean Hannity who regularly has his buddy, former Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich on his show, asked his listeners to identify “Which Republican would you vote for in ‘08 even if they aren’t officially running yet?” A question to which his listeners responed overwhelmingly that they’d prefer the adulterous political flunkee turned right-wing commentator.

Newt Gingrich, Speaker of the House during the first part of the Clinton Impeachment debacle was discovered cheating on his ailing wife with a congressional aide.

At least they’re sensible enough to stay away from Sam Brownback.

McCain A Keynote Speaker at Creationists Meeting

Posted in Uncategorized at 10:39 am by Daimeon

mccain.jpgFebruary 23rd is just another day to most, but to those with a bit more geek factor it is known as Darwin Day.  John “The Tool” McCain is set to deliver a Keynote speech a group of Creationists on this day.  Thereby changing his previous stance on “Intelligent Design” being taught in public schools which changed his stance before that.

Think Progress has the story:

Yet, on February 23, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) will be the keynote speaker for the most prominent creationism advocacy group in the country. The Discovery Institute, a religious right think-tank, is well-known for its strong opposition to evolutionary biology and its advocacy for “intelligent design.” The institute’s main financial backer, savings and loan heir Howard Ahmanson, spent 20 years on the board of the Chalcedon Foundation, “a theocratic outfit that advocates the replacement of American civil law with biblical law.”

Flip-Flop-Flip.  Sounds like a fish struggling to breath out of water.  Time to add another to the list.

How Long Does it Take to Find a Loophole?

Posted in Uncategorized at 4:20 am by Daimeon

Apparently not very long.  According to a NYT article:

The 110th Congress opened with the passage of new rules intended to curb the influence of lobbyists by prohibiting them from treating lawmakers to meals, trips, stadium box seats or the discounted use of private jets.

But it did not take long for lawmakers to find ways to keep having lobbyist-financed fun.

In just the last two months, lawmakers invited lobbyists to help pay for a catalog of outings: lavish birthday parties in a lawmaker’s honor ($1,000 a lobbyist), martinis and margaritas at Washington restaurants (at least $1,000), a California wine-tasting tour (all donors welcome), hunting and fishing trips (typically $5,000), weekend golf tournaments ($2,500 and up), a Presidents’ Day weekend at Disney World ($5,000), parties in South Beach in Miami ($5,000), concerts by the Who or Bob Seger ($2,500 for two seats), and even Broadway shows like “Mary Poppins” and “The Drowsy Chaperone” (also $2,500 for two).

The lobbyists and their employers typically end up paying for the events, but within the new rules.

Instead of picking up the lawmaker’s tab, lobbyists pay a political fund-raising committee set up by the lawmaker. In turn, the committee pays the legislator’s way.

Here’s a graphic.

3 Minuest and 30 Seconds to debate the Washington State DOMA Initiative

Posted in Uncategorized at 9:55 pm by Daimeon

I think Wolfson of Freedom to Marry does his best to convey the real meaning of Initiative 957 and Yeost doesn’t really have much of an argument using doublespeak to first say the pro-equality side is “cruel” for “mocking” infertile couples, but turns around and speaks of the importance that children need to be raised by their biological parents.
